The Good Rockin' Daddys
Shirley Jackson & Her Good Rockin’ Daddys have been fuelling the dance floor with a mix of horn-powered east coast blues. The Good Rockin’ Daddys hail to a sound inspired by the early years of Rock & Roll when horn sections were an integral part of the sound of a swingin' and rockin’ good time and their music is stylized by Jackson's own song writing and arranging.
The band is comprised of: Shirley Jackson on vocals and tenor saxophone; her son, Jef Wirchenko, on bass; Tom Crilley on guitar; Gary Potts on drums.; Dawn Hatfield on baritone saxophone, and Dave Harrison on trumpet.
“Bold and brassy horns pump for all they're worth. Nimble guitar picking is never a bad thing, and enjoys robust collaboration from a bass/drums team that knows well its lively duty. But it is Shirley's own knowing voice that rides atop, guiding toward a straight-up coolness.”
For 2018 the band was focused on promoting their new CD release 'Things Keep Lookin' Up” by performing at various festivals, theatres, and industry showcases in the Atlantic provinces; and securing a tour in Alberta and British Columbia for the summer.
Past national and international highlights include: The Calgary International Blues Festival (Calgary, AB); the Kitchener Blues, Brews & BBQ (Kitchener-Waterloo, ON); the Maximum Blues Festival (Carleton, QC); the Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival (Fredericton, NB) - and a few other adventures performing the Tillotson Center (Colebrook, NH); Poppa Mojo's (Raleigh, NC); and an Election Campaign Party in Los Angeles, California.
